Aluminum A7 vs. A8: Specification and LME Reference

A7 and A8 describe commonly traded primary-aluminum grades, but they are not separate LME contracts. Buyers should confirm the actual certificate of analysis and the precise benchmark and physical differential.

The common grade distinction

A7 is commonly associated with at least 99.70% aluminum and A8 with at least 99.80%. Those shorthand labels do not replace a complete chemical specification. The certificate of analysis and agreed standard control the transaction.

How the LME reference fits

The LME aluminum contract references high-grade primary aluminum. A physical A7 or A8 quotation should state which LME reference is being used and then identify any grade, origin, brand, regional, freight or delivery adjustment.

What a buyer should specify

Before requesting a firm quotation, the buyer should provide the complete grade requirement, intended use, trial and monthly quantity, destination, Incoterm, delivery window and contracting entity.
